Frankenfurter, It's All Over

Hello all, I'm in the BA lounge in Frankenfurt Airport, and bless them, they have free internet acess! So we have time for a final, qick post before we have to run the gauntlet at security.

Back to Heidelberg...

We were both pretty hot, sweaty and tired by the time we arrived, so we bit the bullet and got a taxi to our hotel. M relaxed by having a few pints of Guinness.

I went to have a shower and to change my clothes. When I tried to leave the room, I couldn't unlock the door... Luckily the barman had a pass key, so he and Mike came to the rescue (Very embarassing!)

Heidelberg is a beautiful town. We started Day 2 by enjoing the fabulous cafe continental Breakfasts I have come to know and love. We trudged back to the train station, with the SFH weather playing havoc on our tempers! There was tetchiness, shall we say? We bought Heidelberg Cards at the info office and caught a tram to the fernicular railway and the castle.

A note about ferniculars - basically, it's two tram carriages at either ends of a long cable, with a cable driver at the top of the hill. One goes up, the other goes down. We had already been on one in Brussels, so I was prepared for the little-boy-excited look on Mike's face when he gets on one - v cute. But, probably thanks to my music training, the WHOLE time on these cute little trams, I have the following song in my head:

Funicu-lee, funicu-lar
Funicu-lee, funicu-LAR,
La la la la la,
Funicu-lee, funicular.

(Points to whoever can name this aria first - again, thanks to my lack of attention during my music training!)

The ride and view were awesome, but since it was still SFH we decided to leave the Schloss (castle) until the next day.

The afternoon was spent wandering around the Old Town of Heidelberg. The cathedral was awesome (Mike climbed the tower) and then we headed to the train station to meet Mike's mate Tobi. Alas, he had his days mixed up and didn't come...

More later...

Last Day

Greetings all, this is probably my last blog from this side of the world, I'm flying home tomorrow, so we've been very busy trying to cram in some last-minute stuff before we leave.

Travelling Day - Austria to Heidelberg

Much less painful than I expected. We toddled about Vienna in the morning, jumped on a train, , ended up in Frankfurt-on-Main (i.e. Frankfurt this big city. There's another one that isn't so big), jumped on another train, ended up in Heidelberg.

We were booked into stay at an Irish pub - the only accommodation left in town...

Oh bugger, we have to go and meet M's friend from Stuttgard... more when I can...
